Have you finished studying and want to know how much it costs to take the CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701) exam in Vietnam and how to register? This article will cover the actual costs in 2026, how to purchase a voucher, the steps to schedule an exam via Pearson VUE, and the option to take the exam online at home for those in remote provinces.
How much does the Security+ exam cost (2026)?
The listed price for a voucher directly from CompTIA increased to approximately $439 from June 1, 2026 (previously $425). This is the ceiling price — purchasing through an authorized partner is often cheaper.
One point many people overlook: CompTIA does not offer free retakes. Each exam attempt requires a full voucher. If you fail, you'll pay almost the full price again for the next attempt. Therefore, your true cost calculation is:
- Pass on the first attempt: only 1 voucher.
- Fail on the first attempt: 2 vouchers — almost double the cost.
That's why voucher packages with retakes exist: the price difference for the right to retake is much smaller than buying another full voucher.
Which voucher should you buy?
Voucher + free retake — if you want to be sure. If you happen to fail the first time, you can retake the exam without paying extra. This is a reasonable choice for first-time test-takers, those who aren't completely confident, or simply don't want the risk of a large additional expense. → Security+ SY0-701 Voucher + Free Retake
Standard voucher — if you're confident or need a good price. Your mock scores are consistently above the safe threshold, or you're retaking the exam and know exactly what you need to improve. You just need a good price for one exam attempt. → Security+ SY0-701 Voucher

Where to take the exam in Vietnam
At a Pearson VUE testing center — available in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and some other locations. Suitable if you are nearby and prefer a stable exam environment.
Online OnVUE exam at home — proctor connects remotely via webcam. This is a practical option if you are in a remote province (e.g., Central Highlands, Central Vietnam, provinces without test centers). Please note the following preparations:
- Stable internet connection, working webcam and microphone.
- Private, tidy room, no study materials, no other people entering.
- Valid identification for verification.
- Run OnVUE's system test before the exam day, not at the last minute.
Notes on voucher expiration and version
- Vouchers typically expire around 12 months from issuance — only purchase when you have a study plan and a projected exam date.
- The current version is SY0-701 and remains valid for the foreseeable future, so you don't need to worry about the exam changing mid-term if you take it this year.
Not ready to take the exam yet?
If your mock scores aren't consistent yet, don't rush to buy a voucher — solidify your knowledge first to avoid paying for a retake:

- Want to follow a guided path with official labs: Security+ SY0-701 course (50% off).
