SecurityX is not a certificate for "job seeking" in the usual sense. It is a certificate to affirm competence at the technical decision-making level. This article speaks frankly about its true value in the Vietnamese market, its costs, and the unique aspects of re-taking the pass/fail exam.
Part 1: Career Value
This is a decision-maker's certificate
Lower-level certificates prove that you can do the job. SecurityX proves that you can design systems and make architectural decisions — a fundamentally different level.
This shapes its entire career value. SecurityX does not help a fresh graduate get their first job. It helps an experienced professional advance to a higher-level role or affirm their position in their current role.
Suitable positions
Security Architect: The central role SecurityX targets: designing security architecture for complex enterprise systems.
Senior Security Engineer: High-level technical implementation: DevSecOps, automation, security controls in cloud and hybrid environments.
Security Team Lead / Manager: Someone who needs both technical depth and a management, risk, and compliance perspective — precisely within the scope of SecurityX.
Security Consultant: Advising enterprise clients on security architecture and strategy, where an expert-level certificate significantly increases credibility.
Cloud Security Engineer: With the new focus of CAS-005 on cloud and hybrid environments, this certificate aligns closely with the role of securing cloud infrastructure.
Valued by these enterprise groups
FDI enterprises and multinational corporations. Value certificates that adhere to international standards. SecurityX is part of the US Department of Defense's DoD 8140 framework for high-level roles.
Banks and large financial institutions. Have complex security architectures, high compliance pressure, and require individuals at the design level.
Telecommunications and technology corporations. Large infrastructures requiring dedicated security architects.
Consulting and system integration companies. Expert-level certificates are an asset when working with large clients.
Regarding salary
I won't give specific figures — all security salary data in Vietnam online has issues with recency and sample size. But with SecurityX, one point is more accurate than with other certificates:
At this level, the certificate is rarely the determining factor for salary — experience and role are. SecurityX doesn't "create" high salaries; it confirms you belong to the group of people already at that level. Its value is opening doors to senior roles and increasing negotiation leverage, rather than a fixed added amount.
To understand the real market, survey job postings for "security architect," "senior security engineer" on major sites for more up-to-date data than any old figures.
Part 2: Costs and Retakes
Three types of costs
1. Exam fee. SecurityX is an expert-level exam and has a higher fee than lower-level CompTIA certificates. When purchased through a local vendor, payment is in VND, invoices are provided, and Vietnamese support is available.
2. Study materials and labs. Given the high practical component of SecurityX, this is not an optional expense. As mentioned in the article PBQs and labs in SecurityX, self-studying without hands-on practice will not pass the practical section. CertMaster Perform CAS-005 is a study material many test-takers use as their primary resource.
3. Retake fee. A used voucher is considered expired. Failing does not grant a refund. And because the SecurityX exam fee is higher than other exams, this cost is significantly heavier.
CompTIA's retake policy
According to the official retake policy:
First failure → no waiting period. There is no waiting period between the first and second attempts.
From the third attempt onwards → a minimum 14-day waiting period from the most recent attempt.
No limit on the number of attempts, provided the waiting period is observed and the fee is paid each time.
(Client-proctored exams have different regulations; check with the organizing body if you take the exam via this channel.)
Why learning from SecurityX retakes is harder
This is a unique aspect of SecurityX, and it's important.
With other certificates, when you fail, you receive a score report indicating weak domains — you know exactly what to restudy. SecurityX is graded pass/fail, with no scores and no domain-based analysis. Details are in the article How to take SecurityX and receive results.
The consequence: if you fail, you don't know where your weaknesses lie. You have to guess based on your feeling during the exam — which parts you struggled with, which parts you were unsure about. This makes thorough preparation from the first attempt much more critical than with other exams, as subsequent attempts involve more guesswork.
Three budget scenarios
A — Confident, extensive experience. Voucher + CertMaster Perform. Suitable for those who have worked as security architects for many years, where most of the content is what they do daily.
B — Balanced. Voucher + CertMaster Perform CAS-005 + serious study time. A reasonable choice for most candidates at this level.
C — Risk elimination. Voucher including a free retake — 9,000,000₫ (original price 11,500,000₫), valid for 12 months.
For SecurityX, scenario C is more worth considering than for other exams, due to three combined reasons: the highest exam fee among lower-level CompTIA certificates, expert-level difficulty, and no score report to learn from if you fail. A contingency here is not excessive caution.
A calculation worth making
SecurityX is an expensive and difficult exam. Before registering, honestly ask yourself: have you truly performed the type of work tested on the exam?
If yes — if you design architectures, implement high-level controls, and handle enterprise-scale operations daily — then most of the exam content is your home turf, and a voucher is usually sufficient.
If you are targeting SecurityX to step into that role but haven't done it yet, be honest that this gap is significant. Invest serious study time, and consider a contingency retake — because with this exam, failing is both expensive and hard to know what to fix.
If this is the final piece of CSIE
If you already have Security+, CySA+, and PenTest+, SecurityX is the final exam to complete the CSIE set — details in the article Four Certificates to Achieve CSIE.
In this situation, investing in SecurityX offers multiplied value: an expert-level certificate, completing CSIE, and automatically renewing the other three certificates. This is when the cost and effort put in are most rewarded — and also when a contingency retake is most valuable, because you don't want a missed exam to hinder the entire set.
